Assoc.-Prof. Dr. Nysret Musliu
Artificial Intelligence for Problem Solving
29.06.2023
Përmbajtja:
Optimization problems arise in a variety of areas in industry, business, engineering, health care, etc. In this talk, we will give an overview of different AI methods and application areas/problems, such as planning and scheduling and other optimization problems. We will discuss various methods based on AI techniques for solving such problems. These include solver-independent modeling, exact and heuristic methods, and hybrid techniques that use machine learning techniques for automatic algorithm selection and heuristic algorithm design. We will show the application of the presented techniques on real-world application domains.

Nysret Musliu has been employed at TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology) since 1999, where he currently holds the position of Associate Professor and leads the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Optimization for Planning and Scheduling. In 1996, he earned the degree of 'inxhinier i diplomuar' (equivalent to Dipl.-Ing) from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, specializing in computer sciences and telecommunications, at the University of Prishtina in Kosova. He completed his Doctorate in Computer Science at Vienna University of Technology in October 2001 and obtained his Habilitation in 2007.
His research primarily focuses on artificial intelligence and optimization, with an emphasis on problem-solving and search techniques, automated scheduling and timetabling, machine learning, and optimization. He has co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed scientific articles in important journals and conferences in these fields. Moreover, he has chaired multiple conferences and is a steering committee member of the PATAT conference series.
He received several research grants and awards. One of the prestigious grants he received was from the Christian Doppler Forschungsgesellschaft, which enabled the establishment of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for AI and Optimization for Planning and Scheduling. He received the Informatics Europe Best Practices in Education Award, the Best Industry and Applications Track Paper Award at the ICAPS 2022 conference, and the Distinguished Student ("Student i dalluar") award from the University of Prishtina in 1995.
The research of Nysret Musliu has also been recognized in industry and some of his research results have been included in intelligent scheduling systems that have been used in different organizations. He has research collaborations with several companies including Bosch, MCP, XIMES, an is an academic collaboration partner of the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence in Germany.
